Sunday Ice Cream Sundae Ride

Six members set out from Catterick village for a ride around Jervaulx. The six being Liz (who was leading the ride), Liz, Brian, Gary, John and myself. I know your confused already, so were we. It has been decreed that when both Liz and Liz appear on the same ride, Liz is to be called Liz and Liz will answer to Lizzie (neither were keen on Betty) all clear? Our leader was in fact Lizzie, that’s Liz just in case you’ve forgotten already.

We headed off along the back roads through Hunton to Finghall then passing Thornton Reservoir to arrive at Thornton Steward. We then crossed the River Ure to arrive at our first stop of the day. This was at that famous ice-cream place that I’ve forgotten the name of! This is what cycling is all about I thought as I stood trying to choose between the multitude of flavoured ice-creams on offer. I couldn’t possibly narrow it down to just one flavour, so I went for a double cone topped with banana and mint. Lizzie came out with some theory she had read that ice-cream when eaten during exercise results in negative calories because it’s cold! Who are we to argue?

With all these negative calories we had just consumed, we were a little concerned that we may be wasting away so it was back on the bikes for a short trip up the road to a cafe that I’ve forgotten the name of. The food here was very nice too but there seemed to be some problem with Brian’s order. After repeated requests for them to get a move on, his food finally arrived long after we had finished. As Brian took his last mouth full, Lizzie was up on her feet shepherding us on to our bikes.

After leaving the cafe we headed past Jervaulx Park meandering our way back to Catterick Village. Thankyou Liz, sorry Lizzie for what was a very enjoyable ride, especially if you like ice-cream. Not only that but of course we had John telling his jokes, well I suppose no ride is perfect!

When I arrived home I found I was four ounces lighter, I better have two double cones next time!
