Coverdale and Bishopdale

It was good to see Len all kitted out and looking forward to his debut with the SOC cyclists. The only problem was he had left his wheel at home and attempts to borrow/hire in Middleham proved abortive so it was the disappointment that Len was unable to cycle with us.

We were also a little concerned that our leaders were not yet with us, however 15 minutes late, they arrived having managed to get lost, nearly run out of petrol and be held up by a tractor.

Eventually Ray, Lilian, Ivor and I were on our way up Coverdale enjoying pleasant cycling conditions despite the low cloud.

Over the climb and descending into Kettlewell I was feeling exhilarated and happy as this was my first ride of this kind since last summer.

We continued to Buckden for our stop only to find the cafe closed but Ray and Lilian introduced us to another tea shop called West Winds which we can recommend for those who are interested.

Contrary to the forecast the drizzle turned to rain instead of sunshine, but our spirits were not dampened. We returned over Kidstones and onto Wensley a little wet but well exercised.

Thanks for a wonderful ride. 40 good miles.
