Barnard CastleBeing fairly new to the cycle section it still surprises me that no-one arrive at the RV by car. On this occasion it just might have been due to the £2-50 car parking charge? Five of us met at the Teesdale Cafe for Roly`s 50 mile resevoirs and Tan Hill route. It was very windy and showery and we had hoped to be cycling downwind for most of the trip; some hope. The B6277 up Teesdale is always enjoyable, particularly from a car window. We left the main road and headed up-and-down. that is, steep up-and-down, and around Hurly and Selset resevoirs. Unfortunately for Roly`s plans, just before we reached the decision spot:-left toward Brough and Tan Hill and The Stang; or, right to Middleton-in-Teesdale and the cafe, the Heavens` opened, plus a very strong headwind. There was all-round agreement, the cafe sounded the best option in the conditions. Yes, we were weak-willed. Of course, the moment we stepped back outside the cafe, the sun came out and the wind dried us off nicely on the road back toward Barnard Castle. 27 miles instead of the promised 50! Sorry that we dragged you out for a half-day ride Roly. Yvonne Armitage |
