Autumn In ParisDay 1We all assembled at the La Musardiere camp site in the Forest of Fontainebleau. The rain was teeming down so we spent the afternoon in the nearby town of Milly la Foret where we spent a lot of time wandering round the mediaeval covered market place where the weekly market was in full swing. Having purchased a few of the incredible variety of cheeses and no doubt many other things, we adjourned to a bar for wine, tea and conversation. The rain continued to beat down. Day 2We awoke (surprise! surprise!) to pouring rain so decided that a trip to Paris, by train, was the order of the day. Our Chairman had produced, from the nethermost regions of the Internet, a list of climbing walls (mur d'escalade to you) alleged to be in Paris. This list was to be our downfall. As the rain continued to beat down we found the following: Wall 1 - 20 metres, outside and closed for maintenance. Wall 2 - Small and only open to prebooked groups. Wall 3 - School wall, outside and private. Wall 4 - Nonexistent. After all this pointless rambling round a rainswept Paris we went to the Champs Elysee and walked along the Tuileries Gardens to the Louvre as a watery sun broke through the clouds. Definitely the best part of the day! However as we barbecued and drank our way into the night the sky cleared and our hopes were high for the next morning! Day 3And we were not disappointed! Lots of warm sunshine and lots of lovely boulders! This was what we had come for! Many hours spent at various parts of the Forest. Le Cul de Chien (Dog's Bottom!), Diplodocus and Les Potets for the interest of the cognescenti! A convivial evening at the regular Saturday night venue, La Feuillardiere Restaurant, where our genial host and excellent food made a good finish to a good day. Day 4Sunshine but sadly time to go home! Pete Dyson |
