A Letter From Canada

Hi, Dave

Just a quick note to bore you with the details of my day out in the Adirondacks at the weekend…

Finally managed to get my arse in gear and contacted the local ACC (Alpine something- or- other) about a trip scheduled for 3 weeks time. The guy wrote back, and said he had to bring it forward, so I had 2 days to find all my bits.

Set off at 5.30am Saturday, to meet up with 2 strange women for the drive down. Got caught in a queue for an hour and a half at the US border, so missed our rendezvous and our tour guide who pissed off with another group (fair do's, he left forwarding details).

Decided to try the route anyway, so stopped to buy a map (1:400000000000000 scale, and it's all f***ing trees, anyway) and set off up a streambed for 2 hours without seeing the sky. Couldn't break wind as there were only the 2 ladies, and had awful stomach pains..

We caught the other group up at the bottom of the 'slide'. 1000 feet of ascent (with a total of 3 handholds) at an average gradient of 30 degrees, but some parts were way steep.. it was like Ardvereikie Wall without gear. Great exposure, great fun.. oh yes, it was sunny and warm and what a view!!!

Topped the day off with a swim in a lake.. there was a fabulous high crag on the opposite side of the road that you and Keith would weep to see..

Got back at 21.45, washed my face and still made the start of a (very good) Pink Floyd tribute band performance at 22.00 and got home at 2am Sunday.

So a great day, but I still miss you lot.. would have loved to count the expletives. Back in 2 weeks for multi-pitching.

Take care.
