KMC via Valley Entrance. On the 21st April (Easter Monday) a group of us decided to go caving in the middle of Yorkshire and this day will be imprinted in my memory till the day I die. The day started off with us meeting on the roadside near Kingsdale Master Cave and getting into our gear. This proved to be quite a task and to be honest we all looked like over grown babies squeezed into baby grows but hey, we weren't about to walk the catwalk were we? When we were all ready we stood at the Valley Entrance and one by one we all disappeared into the hole, could this be the hole of doom? As soon as we got inside the cave the adventure started, twisting and turning, I just hoped that we wouldn't get lost. We came to a chamber where Mary was busy strapping us into our harnesses ready for the climb down the 6m. pitch and when it was my turn I felt as though the air had been squeezed out of me but we have to be safe. Going down the ladder was a bit of a nightmare for some people but we all managed to conquer it. Michael (the cutest/noisiest/bravest 6 year old I know) was keen to move on so we strode through the water with new found confidence. After the Philosopher's Crawl there was a muddy patch where Michael was in heaven at being able to make mud balls - sorry CLAY balls - by the dozen. On returning back to the Master Junction, we stopped for some hot chocolate and plenty of mini eggs. It was time to move so it was back through the tunnels up the ladder and out through the hole. I will never take fresh air for granted ever again believe me! It was now time to peel off the baby grows and pulling off my wellies was a challenge, which Dave undertook marvellously. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would most definitely do it again. Thanks for a great day. Laura Pilkington |
