Black Shiver PotJames was in the Alps for what the programme showed as being his trip to Marble Steps (it's like that - the caving programme), but Steven and I felt that a serious return to Yorkshire caving was called for. Thus the perfect weather of Bank Holiday Monday saw us marching across Ingleborough to the ideal venue for the day - Black Shiver Pot. Six hours later after flat out crawls, narrow streamways, deep black pools, lovely formations, short refreshing pitches and the awesome 80m deep Black Rift (the lower part is a superb 55m free hang) we emerged rather wearily to a perfect evening on Ingleborough. A big tick on both our wish lists and a spectacular return to Dales caving. Paul Brooks |
