The Leven

Pete, Clive, Jonty and myself met at Newby Bridge on a bright sunny morning. After sharing with the local police our concern about a driver we had passed on the M6 video recording his journey, we proceeded to the get-in. There we met two friends of Clive's who joined us for the paddle and shared their very nice chocolate crispy cake with us. The first weir was exactly like the first wave at the barrage and like the first wave at the barrage I couldn't surf it. The rest of the river had lots of friendly weirs, drops and rapids that we all enjoyed playing on. It wasn't scary like the guide book suggested but it was fairly low water. Due to my super new dry suit I experienced the luxury of staying warm and dry for the entire day, even after rolling! The day was rounded off by a lovely pint of Cumberland ale.

Quote of the day: "If you stick a rabbit on your head the birds will come to you".
