L'Argentiere Paddlefest 2002Way back in July/August (thought a write up was better late than never!) 13 of us headed out at various times, ranging from 2 weeks of mostly sun to 4 days of mostly storms (bad luck Aly & Andy), to our favourite campsite in the French Alpes. We had lots of fun on the rivers as well as going mountain biking, climbing, via ferrata-ing, walking, swimming in the lake and sun bathing. Unfortunately water levels were low due to poor snowfall earlier in the year with the occasional days of levels being too high due to storms. Despite this we still had many good trips and enjoyed the luxury of paddling in warm weather. Here are everyones best bits:Claire: the grade 4 section of the Guisane, not the easy bit where I fell out and bashed my face. Aly: when it stopped raining. Andy P: surfing a wave on a handmade eastern European raft and watching my experienced captain exit, stopper left. Jane: eating lunch at the top of Briancon cable car, and walking down the mountain singing the tune to Heidi. Malcolm: Viva Via Ferratta and watching Claire's shiner change colour Andrea: the chocolate and banana crepe after walking down a mountain. Jon: cycling away from the tourists up the mountain passes and not going canoeing. Lynne: the Guisane and Gyronde rivers when there was some water and our day mountain biking, minus all the injuries. Phil: the double surfing on the top wave of the slalom course and the surprise on Claires face, the fast rapid on the Guisane, FIREWORKS! VERY VERY LOUD! Some fool let them off late on our last night when the campsite was all hush hush. Jonty: taking Claire out for an anniversary meal after she head butted a rock paddling and people wondering if I'd thumped her! Same time, same place next year. Claire Adams |
